Preamble
Forest vs Malmö and historical connections. The both teams have a historical link, also meeting in Forest's most recent continental tour in the mid-90s European competition, but it is the premier competition final decades past that entwines these two together, with Britain's first £1m player the English forward netting the decisive goal of a pretty miserable final to clinch eternal glory for the the English club.
"Forest's famous bosses, unassuming and low-key amid all the excitement and joy, stood for a moment on a bench serenely viewing the celebrations," wrote the match reporter. Theirs has been an outstanding achievement that it is difficult to imagine happening again – from Second Division to European football in a short period."
It's also interesting to pause a little on Malmö, who became the initial and final Scandinavian side to advance to the ultimate game under English manager Bob Houghton.
This match is a very different to that peak, closer perhaps to the previous continental meeting between Forest and Malmö in the mid-nineties. Forest are riding high after beating Liverpool 3-0 at Liverpool's home on Saturday, while Malmö haven't played officially since early November following the end of the Swedish league season. The general expectation is on the English side tonight.
Additional games on offer in this live coverage. The Scottish side have already been lost to a Braga this season. Rangers are last place of the competition table at the half-way stage of the initial phase with exactly zero. They desperately need a victory if they are to have any hope of making a comeback for a playoff spot.
We'll keep you up to date with all nine of the 8pm kick-offs and provide the latest scores from the earlier matches, including Villa vs Young Boys and the Dutch-Scottish clash.
